Obituary for Maxine Hogan

After a long, active, and rewarding life, Rena Maxine Brake Hogan passed away on Feburary 13, 2024 surrounded by her family in Mangum, Oklahoma. Maxine was born in Altus, Ok on Jan 14, 1923 to George Roy and Ollie Brake. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hogan, her parents, and four siblings, Wade Brake, Clois Walker, Pat Lewis, and Twana Thomason. Growing up her entire life in Jackson County, she graduated in 1941 from Martha High School. She was the salutatorian of her class as well as being an outstanding basketball player. Later that year she married Ray Hogan, and they remained in Jackson County until moving to Mangum in 1949 where they made a permanent home until their deaths. Maxine was a devoted homemaker. She was an accomplished seamstress as well as a fabulous cook. Her chocolate cake and brownies were highly desired bake sale items. Among some of her other interests were playing bridge, volunteering at the Mangum City Hospital and assisting with many Blood Drives. She was a member of the Sorosis Club, and was a Girl Scout Leader. When she and Ray moved to Mangum, they joined the First Baptist Church where she taught a girl's Sunday School class for 5 years. Maxine loved sports and remained an avid athlete and sports enthusiast for several decades. Lots of folks remember her doing flips off of the diving board during Ladie's mornings at the Mangum City Pool......She loved playing golf and tennis. She and her beloved tennis and golf friends traveled around the state entering tournaments and winning lots of them. She had such fond memories of the golf scrambles and all of hers and Ray's golfing buddies. Maxine leaves behind two daughters, Sharon Hogan and Greta Kane and husband Neil Kane . She was known as “Ninny” to three beloved grandchildren, Abigail Clayton, Philip Clayton, and Amy Rotival, Philips's wife Carrie and Amy's husband Laurent. Her great-grandchildren are Alexandre, Sophie, Isabelle, Eddie Rotival and Tyler Clayton. Also surviving are step grandchildren Vanessa Mcbride, Danielle Kane, and Jason Kane .Carrie's children Colton and Aubrey. She leaves Brake family neices and nephews Rose Russell, Brenda Koppes, Beverly Brumelow, , Debbie Heidenrich, Tim Lewis, Steve Thomason, and Mark Thomason along with Hogan family nieces and nephews and their families. 


A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. March 30, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Mangum, with Pastor Casey Paxton officiating. 


Funeral services were entrusted to Greer Funeral Home, Greer, Oklahoma.
