Janet Dariece White, passed away on January 18, 2024, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma at the age of eighty-three.

On November 23, 1940, Ancil Paul and Gladys (Shaw) Gifford rejoiced at the birth of their daughter, Janet Dareice Gifford. Janet was raised on the family farm in Greer County, Oklahoma, and from an early age, Janet learned the value of hard work. Janet attended all twelve grades at City View School in Greer County and graduated from high school in 1958. Janet was always a hard worker. She started working on the farm when she could walk and continued to work diligently throughout her life. She worked at Craterville Amusement Park at Quartz Mountain State Park, then the Franklin Hotel in Mangum. She also worked for Chevalley Moving and Storage for over thirty years, Janet was a packer and then a supervisor. Upon her retirement, she started working for Southwest Transit as a transit driver. She drove from Altus to Elk City and back. While attending a social gathering on December 28, 1996, she ran into an old classmate, Elbert Eugene White. As Elbert tells it, he asked Janet out in High school which she politely declined. In 1996, Janet finally accepted the offer for a date. Elbert and Janet were united in holy matrimony on February 10, 1997, at Quartz Mountain State Park. Janet was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife and sister. She loved her family greatly and enjoyed being around them every moment she could. She also enjoyed camping, dancing, fishing, and gardening. She also loved to go to Braums for diet Cokes, she said “it’s only good if it comes from Braums.” Janet leaves a legacy of hard work and to dedication to her family.
