Obituary for Dessie Mae Hart

Dessie Mae (McClure) Hart, age 100, of Reed, OK passed away on Sunday, March 17th, 2024, in Hollis, OK.

Dessie was born on January 8th in Plainview, OK to John Emory & Jessie Florence (Reece) McClure. Dessie was a twin sister to Harvey Lee McClure. Dessie grew up in the Plainview, OK area, where she attended and graduated school. On November 22nd, 1942, she married Curtis Hart in Erick, OK. Most of their married years were spent in the Reed and Vinson areas, before Curtis’s death in 2002. After many years as a homemaker, Dessie worked for Mangum Public Schools, where she retired. While with the school she worked as a cafeteria worker and a bus driver. Dessie was a GREAT cook and often treated her family and friends to her good food and especially her homemade bread. She loved her family deeply and displayed that by always being a loving and giving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Even a great, great grandmother of three little ones. Dessie was baptized on August 23rd, 2013, at the Sayre Church of Christ in Sayre, OK.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, John E. and J. Florence, one sister, Ruby (McClure) Eagan, four brothers, Raymond, Roy, Robert and Harvey Lee McClure. Two children, Roger Hart and Leah (Hart) Hall, one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hart, two grandsons, Ty Len & Clay Powell Hart, & two special nieces, Imogene Lively and Donna Kindsfather.

Dessie is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Hart of Reed and Brenda (Hart) Ellis and son-in-law, Carl Ellis of Vinson. Two grandchildren, Galen Ellis and Heather of Vernon, TX and Brandi (Ellis) Orosco and husband Adam of Mangum. Five great grandsons, Kyle Ellis & Amber of Shallowater, TX, Derrick Ellis & Kenzy of Elk City, OK, Clay Ellis & Kallie of Altus, OK, Owen Orosco of Altus, OK and Jay Orosco of Weatherford, OK. Three great, great grandchildren, Payton & Landon Ellis and Lukas Ellis.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Reed Community Center or Vinson Community Center.


The Hart family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. March 20, 2024, at Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.


Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. March 21, 2024, at Erick Cemetery, Erick, Oklahoma.


Funeral services are entrusted to Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.
