Obituary for Jack Morren
Jack H. Morren, Jr., 79, passed away at his home Saturday, January 13, 2018 due to a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Pine Valley, OK., now a ghost town, to Jack H. Morren, Sr and Helen (Woods) Morren on March 21, 1938. His father was a planerman in the lumber mills, so the family moved from Oklahoma to California then to Louisiana and again back to California. He finished his senior year of high school in Sacramento, California at Grant Union High School. May 2, 1955 Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force. At the beginning of his Air Force career he trained and became a crew chief on B-47’s at Biggs AFB, later moving on to become a crew chief on B-52’s at Mather AFB. Jack served in Vietnam where he was a part of many missions as a crew chief on B-52’s. Later in his Air Force career he became a Flight Engineer on C-141’s and spent many hours flying back and forth to southeast Asia, at times only coming home long enough to wash a load of clothes and say hi to his kids. In 1974 he transferred to Altus AFB, where he retired from the United States Air Force a year later in 1975. There is no doubt that Jack loved his country and loved the United States Air Force. He received many awards and medals but the one that stood out and humbled him the most was the Distinguished Flying Cross which was awarded to him on December 27, 1969, due to unforeseen weather conditions and the beleaguered outpost came under severe attack. His quick and knowledgeable assistance in effecting a successful go around aided in saving a valuable aircraft and the lives of his fellow crew members. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty he displayed reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force

Jack went into civil service as a flight engineer instructor with Hughes and then Flight Safety. He enjoyed not only teaching, but sharing his passion of airplanes and flying with his students. His love of the Air Force and flying was evident to the very end of his life.

In his spare time he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie Morren. His three sons, Steve of Altus, Mike and Wife Kim of Arkansas, Jim and wife Shelly of Blair, and his daughter Jaclyn and husband Rob of Oklahoma City. Six grandchildren, Blaine of Arkansas, Brooke and Tanna of Blair, and Alexis, Austin, and Asha of Mustang, OK. Three great grandchildren, Locklynn, Bristol, and Blakelyn. He is also survived by a brother in law and sister in law, Jack and Kris of Idaho, Brother in law Tom of California and a sister in law, Marianne of California.

The family will greet friends at visitation from 6-8 pm on Thursday January 18, 2018 at Lowell Tims Funeral Home, located on Tamarack road in Altus, OK.

Interment will follow at 11:00 am Friday January 19, 2018, at the Fort Sill National Cemetery, in Elgin, OK. Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
