Obituary for Irma T Morgan
Irma Trout Morgan passed from this earthly life to her eternal home at 91 years of age on December 11, 2017 surrounded by her devoted and loving caregivers at English Village Manor in Altus, Oklahoma after a brief illness. She was born August 3, 1926 in Jester, Oklahoma, to Gerald Wayne and Regina Cox Trout. Her mother passed away when Irma was six years old. She and her little brother, Ivan Wayne Trout, were raised by their paternal grandparents, Charles Shelburn and Effie Lewis Tyler Trout and their Uncle Thomas Oliver Trout.

She graduated from Eastview High School where she played basketball and was very active in 4-H. She was the pianist at Eastview Baptist Church through her adolescent years until she left home. She attended a 4-H conference at Stillwater at what was then Oklahoma A&M where she and a classmate had won the statewide dress review. While there, she met Dee Morgan of Cityview High School who was also from Greer County. Sitting by Theta Pond on the Oklahoma A&M campus was the spark the romance needed and they married on April 21, 1946 at the First Baptist Church of Mangum, Oklahoma. As a young person, she had worked at the Jester Phone Exchange. Her early marriage years were spent having a family and being a stay at home mom. In the late 1950s, she went to work selling Worldbook and Childcraft encyclopedias and won many top sales awards. She ran the Oklahoma Farmers Union Insurance Agency in Mangum for several years. Irma and Dee were the perfect team active in many community, school, and church activities until his death in 1986. A few years later based on her letter to the editor that was published in the Mangum Star-News, and public urging, she ran for office. Irma was elected Mayor of Mangum. During her tenure as Mayor and by serving on the Southwest Oklahoma Development Authority Board, she was able to get several large grants and projects approved for Mangum and Greer County. In 1998, she received the George Nigh Mayor"s Award for Oklahoma Mayor of the Year. She was a proud Democrat and served as Chair of Greer County Democratic Women more than once, but worked side by side with Democratic and Republican governors and legislators to boost tourism and economic opportunities for Mangum and Greer County.

Irma was also a long time member of the Mangum First Baptist Church. Her professional organizations were Mangum"s Business and Professional Women"s Club, Democratic Women, Mangum Mounties, Oklahoma Farmer"s Union, American Association of Sheriff"s Posses and Riding Clubs and District 151 of Grand National Horseman"s Association. She was an avid supporter of the Mangum Public Schools and continued to support them long after the graduations of her children and grandchildren. She was instrumental in the restoration of Jester Cemetery and the Needwood Cemetery near Vinson, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dee, her parents Gerald and Regina Trout, her Stepmother Alva Copelin Trout, her brother Wayne, her sister Geraldine Trout Bell, son Zackary Paul Morgan, granddaughter Kayce Ann Morgan Booth, her best friend Maggie Parker, and another special friend and companion, Bailey Stinson.

She is survived by her children Kay and Larry Parsons of Olustee, Robert and Teri Morgan of Austin, Texas, Judy Morgan of Altus, Oklahoma, Jane and John Uecke of Lorton, Virginia and her sister in law, Lazelle Morgan Flynn of Deer Park Texas.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Trent Staton and wife, Kimberly, of Loomis, California, Tara Coffman and husband, Randall, of Altus, Chris Parsons, Seminole, Carrie Griffis of Willow, Brad Morgan of Austin, Texas, and Cole Morgan and wife Amanda of Oklahoma City, eleven Great Grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
