Arline Smith, 101 years old of Mangum and a lifelong resident of Greer County, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Grace Living Center in Mangum.
Arline was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on September 6, 1916 to her parents Will and Alice Sanders. She grew up in Reed, Oklahoma and went to Reed Schools where she played on a state champion basketball team and graduated from Reed High School Class of 1934. Shortly after her high school years, Arline married Robert Odell Smith on August 4, 1934 in Mangum and they enjoyed almost 59 years of marriage before Odell"s death in 1993. As a young married couple, they farmed and ranched at Jester and Brinkman for many years. Arline and Odell really enjoyed farming and ranching and going fishing and their church activities. They always attend all of their daughter Shirley"s events and would host visiting pastors in their home. When Odell"s health declined they moved to Mangum in 1980. Arline was a longtime member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Mangum and was the church secretary for several years. She was president of the Ladies Farm Women"s Club in Brinkman and an active member with the Red Hat Club. Arline enjoyed playing Dominoes and WaHoo, going fishing, working in her yard and decorating her home. But most of all, Arline loved her God and Savior and always treasured time with her family.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and two sisters; Arline is survived by her daughter Shirley Stark of Mangum; three granddaughters, Diane Coleman and husband David of Texas; Becky Green and husband Ray of Texas; and Katy Young Paris and husband Rodney of Texas; one grandson, Darryl Wade Stark and wife Carol of Texas; four great grandchildren, Wendi Stark Warren and husband David of Florida; Austin Coleman and wife Evan of Virginia; Angela Hill and husband Ryan of Texas; and Katelyn Young of Texas; six great great grandchildren, Brody, Tessa, Simon, Zoey, Zane, and Luke; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 13, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church in Mangum with Pastor David Stewart officiating. Private interment will take place at Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.
