Obituary for Glynadee Ann Edwards
Glynadee Ann Edwards, 74, resident of Mangum, Oklahoma passed away May 11, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“Volunteer of the Year.” “Doesn’t know how to say no.” “She would help anyone.” And “She loves her Baby Brother.” When anyone spoke about Glynadee Edwards, either in passing or as a friend, they were guaranteed to include any (or all) of these phrases in their responses, all of it true, yet all of it falling short of her true character.

Glynadee Ann Edwards was born in Mangum, Oklahoma, to Tom and Shirley Edwards on November 16, 1947. Artie B., fondly nicknamed “Baby Brother” by Glynadee, joined the family two years later.

Glynadee grew up learning to cook, sew, farm, and work hard, following in the tradition of her grandmother, mother, and father. She graduated from Reed High School in 1966 and continued her education at Cameron University, and then Oklahoma State University. Glynadee had aspirations of becoming a veterinarian, but her dreams were shattered by a professor who told her no female would ever get into vet school. She graduated from OSU with a master’s degree in entomology.

As one of the first females to work at Monsanto, Glynadee helped pave the way for others to follow in her footsteps. When her mother’s health declined, Glynadee moved back to Mangum in the 1990s and soon began a long career at the Greer County Courthouse as the 911 Emergency Manager for the county. She maintained that position until her untimely death on May 11, 2022, following a brief illness.

The awards, accolades, recognitions, and certificates of achievement that Glynadee received through the years were well-deserved. She held far too many offices and titles to list individually. Suffice to say that individuals in Greer County involved in 4-H, Greer County Home and Community Education, American Legion, Oklahoma Emergency Management Association, and the Greer County Community Thanksgiving Meal, as well as being impacted by severe weather, benefitted from Glynadee’s knowledge and guidance. The above list of organizations only scratches the surface of her dedication to the people she knew.

Her influence was also felt throughout the state with her many endeavors, and even crossed state lines. She never received money nor would accept money for any of the countless hours, days, weeks, and months she spent working for all of the organizations of which she was a member or volunteer.

Many may not realize the tenderness of Glynadee’s heart. Her love for 4-H and the youth of Greer County brought forth many tears at times. She wanted nothing more than ALL of her 4-H members to succeed and find a project they truly enjoyed. Glynadee’s legacy can be found in the children she mentored through projects, speeches, and citizenship activities

Just as unique as her name, Glynadee will never be forgotten. She is survived by Baby Brother Artie B. Edwards and his wife Kristin of Stillwater; special friends Jan Barby, Cathy Dock, Marti Stumbaugh, Pam Simmons, Cheryl Lively, Butch Clark and family, David Barnes, and Bob Grenway; and her cat Bebe.
