Obituary for Betty Jean Woodruff
Betty Jean Woodruff, 82, lifelong resident of Hollis resident, peacefully passed away on Good Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Harmon Memorial Hospital, Hollis, Oklahoma surrounded by her family.

Betty was born on Good Friday, March 22, 1940 in Hollis, Oklahoma to her parents, John Elbert Mitchell and Mary (Sieber) Mitchell, she was the youngest child born to the Mitchell family. She grew up in Hollis and was a member of the graduating class of 1958. On August 5, 1959 she married Wayne “Sleepy”Woodruff.

Betty believed in the value of hard work. Her work career began waiting tables at Annie River’s cafe. When children came, Betty became a full-time homemaker where she managed the household and took care of her children. During this time, she also did ironing for people to earn extra income. As her children grew, she worked with Sleepy and her brother-in-law, Andy, at the Phillips 66 gas station. When the decision was made to sell the gas station, Betty worked as a medication aide at Colonial Manor I Nursing Home for 14 years. Following this, she returned to waitressing. She worked at the Hollis Inn until her health wouldn’t allow her to continue. Providing for her family and making sure their needs were met was always her main priority.

On a personal level, Betty loved her family deeply, but her greatest joy was simply being "Granny". Always protective and supportive, she enjoyed attending all the kids' and grandkids’ games and school activities. Even when her health began to fail, she made sure that she was present, and that the family got along as she expected. Betty had no problem being honest and setting the record straight, but she always did it with love and firm kindness. Her selfless concern for others, genuine spirit, and giving nature will forever be remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.

She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Hollis and loved Jesus Christ with all of her heart.

Betty was preceded in death by her father John Elbert Mitchell; her mother, Mary (Sieber) Mitchell, her brother, Floyd Mitchell; and her husband of sixty-one years, Wayne “Sleepy”

Betty is survived by her three sons, Tony Woodruff, Dale and wife Stephanie Woodruff, Chris Woodruff and Mary Mingura; a Daughter, Elaine Hanks and husband Darrell; brother, Charles Mitchell; grandchildren, Gavin Woodruff and fiancée Alexie, Corey Mingura, Christian Woodruff, and Westin Woodruff and wife Mikah. The Woodruff family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2022, at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
