Zena Leota Bonds

Zena Leota Bonds, age 88, of Altus, passed away early Thursday morning, September 14,2006, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Leota was born on November 18th, 1917, to James Alexander Henderson and Hattie Loucinda Stephens Henderson at Pleasant Point near Friendship, Oklahoma. Graduating from Pleasant Point High School, she married Howard Bonds in Hollis on September, 1937, and they spent fifty-eight years together before his death in 1996. Leota and Howard ran the Altus Bus Station for many years where she also cooked in the Bus Station Cafe. A member of the Duke First United Methodist Church, Leota loved her God and enjoyed singing and listening to gospel music. Fishing, camping, and spending time with her family, whom she dearly loved, were her favorite pastimes. Known as the Atlanta Braves number one fan, Leota could always take in a game of baseball.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard, a son, Doug in 1990, three brothers, Claude Henderson, Orville Henderson, and Arlie Henderson, she is survived by two children, Shirley Miller and husband Jerry of Altus and Harold Bonds and wife Janie of Elk City; four grandchildren, Clift Miller and wife Teresa of Altus, Dawn Rene Rinehart and husband Jim of Marina, California, Steve Bonds and wife Misty of Elk City, and Neil Bonds and wife Heather of Blair; three great-grandchildren, Natalie Camp, Kurt Rinehart, and Ashleigh Bonds; one great-grandson, Noah Camp; one sister-in-law, Pauline Eccles of Heber Springs, Arkansas; one brother-in-law, Felix Bonds of Holladay, Utah, along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
