McDANIEL
Yonne P. McDaniel went to live with our Lord and Savior on January 7, 2012. She was born August 28, 1921 to V.G. and Iva (Richardson) Pendleton and raised on a farm five miles northwest of Mangum in Greer County, OK. She had 12 half brothers and sisters, but remained close to one special brother Kruger. She attended Mangum High School and graduated in 1939. After high school she graduated from Mangum Junior College with an Associate Degree in Business in 1941. While in Junior College, she worked part time in a law office in Mangum. After she graduated from Junior College, she began working full time in the same law office. In February of 1942, she registered with the Board of Bar Examiners of the State of Oklahoma for private study in a law office. (This was permitted in those days " after at least two years of approved college curriculum and four years private study in an approved law office, a candidate could take the bar examination and if passed, be admitted to the bar.) She was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association on July 9, 1946 and continued practice in the same law office as partner until January, 1961, when her partner entered into a judgeship. Since that time, she has continued to practice. She was the City Judge for Mangum for 27 years. She continued practicing law until just a few weeks ago. She was honored by the Oklahoma Supreme Court for 56 years of service and by the Oklahoma Bar Association for 50 and 60 years of law service. She loved her work. She set an example for all women and what they can achieve by working hard, being strong and overcoming gender discrimination in those days. She was strong, smart and respected throughout the legal community.
Yonne loved to travel the world and from 1970 to around 1990 she traveled all over the world on 5 continents, mostly with her friend Gladys Nichols. She was also very active in many civic clubs. She had served as President of the BPW (Business Professional Women"s club), Women"s Civic Club of Mangum and Greer County Democratic Women. She was the director of the Miss Mangum Pageant for 10 years (a preliminary to the Miss America Pageant.) She served for many years as a board member and 1 year as president for the Mangum High School Alumni Association. She worked diligently in helping Mangum qualify as a Certified City and served on the Mangum Chamber Board of Directors several years. She has served many years on committees for her church, First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the music and especially hearing the pipe organ. For many years she has been a member of the Sorosis Book Study Club where she enjoyed being with her friends discussing books and having coffee and cake. Yonne was an avid Bridge player and looked forward to playing Bridge once or twice a week. Her friends were very special to her heart.
Yonne met Harold A. McDaniel in 1946 and they were married in 1947. They had four children: William Allen, John Preston, Mary Jane and Jack Lee. She loved her children and put them first in her life. She attended football, basketball and baseball games faithfully.
She was preceded in death by her parents Volly and Iva Pendleton; her husband, Harold A. McDaniel; and her son, Dr. John McDaniel and a daughter-in-law, Beverly Brown McDaniel. She is survived by her children William (Bill) McDaniel and wife Barbara from Arlington, TX; Mary Jane Scott and husband Stephen of Mangum; her son Jack McDaniel and wife Lola of Ft.Worth, TX and daughter-in-law Carolyn Odom McCabe.
