Wilma Jean Cornett, 92, long time resident of Gould, Oklahoma passed away Sunday November 6, 2022, at Harmon County Memorial Hospital in Hollis, Oklahoma.
Jean was born October 8, 1930 to Jasper and Ruby (Marple) Moore in McQueen, Oklahoma. Being raised during the dustbowl in Oklahoma made Jean into the incredible pioneer woman. She attended and graduated Centralview High School in 1949. She married Alvin Herman Cornett January 17, 1949 in Childress, Texas. This marriage would be blessed with Four children, , Monte, Lindel, Charlotte, Craig and a special niece Shirley to complete their family.
A huge part of Jean’s life was dedicated to Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and was baptized at a young age. Jean served in numerous boards and activities within the church and was always willing to serve. She had a servant’s heart and a great love her community.
Jean was always very active she was a school bus driver for numerous years in Gould, she also cooked at the Gould Café during harvest, and most recently volunteered at the school as a cafeteria worker.
She was known for her incredible culinary creations, such as her granny burger and her candied sweet potato. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. In her eighties she broke her leg after climbing a tree trying to get the perfect peach from the top of a tree. She reached the peached and even protected it as she fell. To say Jean was a determined and persistent woman would be an understatement.
Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-one years, Alvin Herman Cornett; Son, Lindel Cornett, one grandson, Clayton Shawn Cornett; one granddaughter, Kayle Brackell Cornett; brother, John Moore, and her parents, Jasper and Ruby Moore.
Left to honor Jean’s memory are her children, Monte Cornett of Shamrock, Texas, Charlotte Springfield of Hollis, Oklahoma, Craig Cornett of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, sisters, Ruby Cornett, of Mangum, Oklahoma, Mary Alders of Coalspring, Texas, Margaret Taylor of Duke, Oklahoma; niece, Shirley Jordan of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2022, at The Duke Church of Christ with Mr. Jack Moore officiating interment will follow at Dryden Cemetery, Hollis, Oklahoma.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
