Obituary for William Lamar McKenzie
William Lamar McKenzie was born January 8, 1942 in Fernwood, Mississippi. He was the sixth oldest of seven children born to Alvie Leslie and Jimmie Estelle McKenzie.
William Lamar passed Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
William Lamar joined the United States Air Force in 1961. In 1962 Bill met Darla Thomas and later married her in 1963 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Altus, Oklahoma. In 1964 they started their family with three children, LaDonna McKenzie Pauley, Jennifer McKenzie Dollins, and Craig McKenzie. He proudly served his country for twenty three years in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard. He served the Southwest Baptist Campground for nineteen years.
Upon his retirement the Bill and Darla moved back to Altus, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Darla McKenzie; brother, Lewis McKenzie, and wife Sandra McKenzie; sister, Nan and husband Joe Abbott; Sister- In-law, Pat McKenzie; Brother – in-laws, Jackie and wife Nancy Jo Thomas, Cliff and wife Nancy Lynn Thomas. Bill is also survived by his children, LaDonna Pauley, Jennifer and husband Wyndell Dollins, Craig and wife Angela McKenzie; Grandchildren, Matthew Pauley, Trenton Pauley, Kyndell Dollins, Dusty and husband Clayton Terry, Jimmie and husband Jacob Cope, Madison McKenzie and fiancé Trey Turner and Rylee McKenzie; Great Grandchildren, Kade Dollins, Matt Pauley, Raven Pauley, Aaden Pauley, KynLeigh Dollins. As well as many adopted grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie Leslie and Jimmie Estelle McKenzie; Brothers, Garland and wife Dera McKenzie, Donald Ray McKenzie; Sisters, Katie Lee and husband Cecil Alayon, Jimmie Lou and husband Hershel Jones Sr.
A celebration of life service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Lowell – Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brent Logan officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Willow Cemetery, Willow Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Lowell – Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
