STANSBURY
William Stansbury, age 87, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Willowood Assisted Living Center in Mustang, Oklahoma.
Mr. Stansbury was born May 21, 1929 in a half dugout in the Vinson area of Harmon County, Oklahoma. Born to Lula Belle Lacasse Stansbury and Loren Frank Stansbury. He was raised in the Vinson area. Around age 9, he was hired out as a farm hand.
William married Louise Bradford in May 1947. He farmed in the Russel, Oklahoma area until moving to Mangum where he first worked in the brick plant and then for the City of Mangum where he was superintendent of the city parks. He retired from the city of Mangum after 31+ years and was honored as Outstanding Employee of the Year in 1992.
He retired from the City of Mangum after 30+ years and contracted mowing lawns until 1994. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Mangum for many years until it closed and then became a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mangum.
He loved being outdoors and driving in his pickup truck. Many hours were spent telling stories while playing competitive games of dominoes with this friends and family.
His granddaughters have great memories of riding “up town†with their grandpa to ride the electric pony outside of the grocery store and then stopping to get a soda pop and candy bar on the way home. He loved to feed, Cole, his great-grandson, Oreos and watch him play with toy trucks.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his wife Louise, daughter Sherrie Gay Stansbury, sisters, Levada Bethell and Lillie Mae Bynum, and brothers Frank Stansbury and Willie Willis Stansbury. He is survived by daughter Judy Brooks and husband Cecil of Yukon, granddaughters Amy Young and husband Todd of Yukon, Amanda Jewell and husband Bradley of Carver, MN, and great-grandsons Cole Young and Carson Jewell, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday January 26, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Mangum with Reverend Marsha Purtell officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.
