Stover
William B. Stover, age 92, of Clinton, passed away early Thursday morning, November 7, 2013, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Clinton.
William was born in Willow Grove, Tennessee on September 16, 1921 to Walter and Sara Lou (Huffer) Stover. He moved to Granite Oklahoma in 1929 where he attended the Ozark School. William enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1942. In the Army, William proudly served in the 127th Infantry Division and was a decorated World War II veteran having been awarded the Purple Heart, the Oak Leaf Cluster along with several other commendations during his active duty in the Philippine"s at the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Upon returning home from serving his country in 1945, William began farming in the Jester area until he retired in 2005. William moved to Granite in the early 1960"s and would later move to Mangum in 2003 before being going to the VA Center at Clinton in 2012. In his free time, William enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching sports, especially Oklahoma City Thunder Basketball.
Preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, Myrtie Brown, Ira Stover, Fred Stover, Arlene Conner and Willie Dee Means; one nephew, Fred Stover Jr.; one niece, Diane Conner, William is survived by Faye Smith and husband Claude of Vancouver, Washington and Loreta Stewart and husband Marvin of Sayre, Oklahoma.
Funeral services for William B. Stover will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the Greer Funeral Home Chapel in Mangum with Ken Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.
