Wayne Vaughn, age 74, of Mangum, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 12, 2014, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.

Wayne was born in Brownwood, Texas on September 29, 1939, to Roy and Vada (White) Vaughn. Moving to Ft. Worth, Texas, as an infant, Wayne graduated from Paschal High School, in 1959. Wayne received his Bachelors degree from Bethany Nazarene College and immediately went to work for the YMCA, in Bethany, Oklahoma, as the director, for the next five years. While in Bethany, two of Wayne"s children, Debbie and Doug, were born. Next, Wayne was promoted to Beaumont, Texas where he started a new branch of the YMCA. He later took a job with the San Antonio, Texas YMCA where he served as the director for several years. Moving to Ft. Worth, Wayne became the YMCA director at Camp Carter. On August 26, 1983, Wayne married Shirley McElroy and they spent the next thirty wonderful years together, before his untimely death. Moving to Atlanta, Georgia, from Ft. Worth, Wayne began working for a Major Fund Raising Firm. After five years, Wayne and Shirley returned to Ft. Worth where he worked in fund raising until he retired in 2005. Moving to Mangum, Wayne immediately began working as the director of the Greer County Chamber of Commerce and Mangum Main Street Program, where he continued until his death. Over the last nine years, Wayne helped with numerous programs to promote Greer County and was known to assist anyone that he could help. Under his guidance, Greer County received many awards due to Wayne"s leadership in the Chamber and Main Street Programs. In his spare time, Wayne enjoyed camping, fishing, attending rodeos, playing cards and dominoes.

Preceded in death by his parents and one son, Gregg Burnam, Wayne is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; four children, Debbie Smith and husband Will of St. Louis, Missouri, Doug Vaughn of Arlington, Texas, Jamie Vaughn of Mangum and David Johnston and wife Tammy of Loughman, Florida; eight grandchildren, Cory Martin and wife Megan, Bethany Smith, Taylor Vaughn, Kyle Johnston, Lindsay Johnston, Kelsey Johnston, Brandon Burnam and wife Kassiday and Derrick Burnam and wife Morgan; four great grandchildren, Trey Johnston, Lane Burnam, Kase Burnam and Gunner Burnam; two brothers, Bill Vaughn and wife Dodie of Denver Colorado and Dwayne Vaughn and wife Sharon of Joshua, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Karen Jerman and husband Jack of Chickasha, Oklahoma and Marsha Griswold of Mangum along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Wayne Vaughn will be at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Mangum High School Auditorium with Pastor Darrell Coffman officiating. Interment will follow at the Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.

The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 until 7 p.m.
