Obituary for Wayne Greer

Leroy "Wayne" Greer, of Mangum, OK, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on December 7, 2022, in Altus, OK at Magnolia Creek Skilled Rehabilitation.

Wayne was born December 12, 1958, to Leroy & Lorena Greer in Dimmitt, TX. Leroy, a cotton ginner by trade, and Lorena raised their family in Morton, TX and Taft, TX before settling their home in Erick, OK where Wayne graduated from high school in 1977 before starting his family.

In 1979, Wayne made his home in Mangum, OK and had two boys, Joseph Wayne and Michael Jason Greer. He was a strong, hardworking man that worked as a driller in the oilfield and later as a heavy machine operator for American Gypsum. Wayne retired in 2002 and spent many years working with his mother-in-law, Jane Bull, with her rental business. They became good friends and travel buddies over those years and Wayne loved to tell stories of his camping and fishing trips on the Colombia River in Oregon and Alaska. In 2004, Wayne started his favorite job and self-proclaimed (best years of his life) when he became a Papa, and he moved in with Jason and got to be a full-time, live-in nanny to Amy & Jason Greers children, Michael Wayne Greer and Tessa JoAnn Greer. They were the light of his life, and he was the most joyful, tender and devoted caretaker to his grand babies, spending everyday exploring life through the eyes of a child and teaching them to appreciate the simple things in life and made sure they knew just how valuable they are. Wayne wished very much that he lived closer to Joseph and Jenny Greer so he could build memories with his grandson Gilbert Samwise Greer of Concordia, MO and spoke of them often. Nothing made him more proud than being a Papa. Wayne spent his time tending to anything his family or friends needed help with and never left you without paying you a compliment or leaving you with a treasure that he found. He loved arrowhead hunting, treasure hunting at pawn shops, and tending to his cattle on the Greer homestead in the "breaks" south of Erick, OK. He also had a huge respect for WWII veterans and pride for America and its history.

In April of 2022, Wayne took a shot and reconnected with the true love of his life, Jo Lynn Lehman 45 years after they dated. They quickly became inseparable, and Wayne was so proud to show her off everywhere they went. Wayne was like a giddy teenage boy with Jo Lynn and loved her so very much. He looked forward to marrying Jo Lynn and taking care of her the rest of his days. She is his angel on earth and never left his side from the moment they reconnected, and she stayed by his side until his very last breath. He waited his whole life for that kind of love and couldn't believe he found her. With no doubt he left this world knowing he was unconditionally loved by her.

Wayne was proceeded in death by his parents Leroy and Lorena Greer. His brother Kenneth Greer. His niece Kanesha Greer and his granddaughter Jasey Greer.

He is survived by fiancée, Jo Lynn of the home. Sons, Joseph & Jenny Greer, Jason Greer and fiancée Ashlee Joslin; Grandchildren, Gilbert, Michael and Tessa Greer, Daughter-in-law, (Daughter by Choice) Amy Greer; Sister, Linda Ledbetter and husband Jim; Brothers James, Rickey, and Kevin Greer and their spouses Marianne, Judy, and Lora Greer. Brother-in-law, Michael Ritchey and wife Lynn. Nieces and nephews, Eddie Ledbetter, Mike Ledbetter, Brady Greer, Kelley Greer, Jamie Greer, Levi Greer, MaLia Greer, Whitney McIntosh, Bryan Greer, Dalton Greer, Keaton Greer, and Jaidyn Greer.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum, OK with a private family memorial in the "breaks" to follow.
