Obituary for Wash S. Howard
Funeral services for Wash Howard, 80, longtime resident of Jackson County are scheduled for 10:00am Tuesday, December 19, at the Altus First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Altus Cemetery. Rev. Keith Wiginton will officiate. Mr. Howard passed away December 14, at the local hospital. Mrs Howard was born August 25, 1915 in Altus to Warren and Farrie (King) Howard, children of pioneer parents of Southwest Oklahoma. Mr Howard married Vivian Watson on August 24, 1940 in Snyder, Oklahoma. Mr. Howard was a graduate of Oklahoma A & M. Mr. Howard was a farmer and rancher, and was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school class. Mr. Howard was the Jackson County Assessor form 1962 until 1982. Mr. Howard was proud of the fact that he never drew an opponent for this position, Mr. Howard served on the Friendship School Board, Taught Ag at Blair School, served on the Headrick Elevator Board, served as president of the County Assessor's Association, as well as many other boards and committees. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include wife Vivian Howard of the home, children; David Howard of Altus, Oklahoma; Margaret Schmidt and husband Richard of Vacaville, California; brother; K.C. Howard and wife Vernie of Headrick, Oklahoma; Sam Howard of Headrick, Oklahoma; sisters, Jessie Reynolds of Altus, Oklahoma; Bessie Daon and husband Bennie of Lawton, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Kevin Howard and wife Linda of Altus, Oklahoma Amy Schmidt of Vacaville, California; Ryan Schmidt of Vacaville, California; two great grandchildren; Desarae and Nichole Howard of Altus.
