Obituary for Walter Hershel Cunningham
Walter Hershel Cunningham, 75, of Altus, formerly of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at English Village Nursing Home.
Hershel was born October 14, 1933, in Cache, Oklahoma, to W.A. "Pete" Cunningham and Lois Pearl (Risinger) Cunningham. He grew up in Hollis and attended Hollis Public Schools. He was a truck driver for many years and enjoyed being on the road. He had lived in Altus for the past twelve years. Hershel loved attending rodeos and roped cattle when he was a young man. Hershel was a professional card player, enjoyed shuffleboard, and loved horses. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. He also loved his dogs, "Leroy" and "Sissy."
Hershel is survived by his four children, Lucky Sue Green and husband Kenny of Merkel, Texas, Tammy Strickland and husband Joel of Mustang, Oklahoma, Larry "Shotgun" Cunningham and wife Julie of Cache, Oklahoma, and Brad Cunningham and wife Kandi of Altus; his loving companion, Judy Dorsey of Altus; ten grandchildren, Kenny Green, Jr., Shelly Buckley, T.J. Strickland, Scott Strickland, Jenna Dodson, Reece Cunningham, Aaron Cunningham, Braden Cunningham, Connor Cunningham, and Kanyon Cunningham; ten great-grandchildren, Daniel Buckley, Tyler Buckley, Ricky Buckley, Andy Buckley, Hunter Green, Kelsea Green, Natalee Strickland, Dawtry Strickland, Haley Dodson, and Hunter Dodson. His parents, Pete and Lois Cunningham, preceded him in death.
Memorial graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at McKnight Cemetery with Reverend James Scarborough officiating. Arrangement are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
