Obituary for W. J. Risinger
W. J. Risinger, age 87, of Altus, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.
Mr. Risinger was born on January 12, 1921, at Altus to Walter Jackson and Texie Ann (Elkins) Risinger. Living in Jackson County all of his life, he worked on the farm with his parents for the first several years of his life. Being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942, he served in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. On December 3, 1945, Mr. Risinger was honorably discharged and returned to Altus where he met Imogene DeFord. On September 25, 1948, they were married in Vernon,Texas and they were married fifty-seven wonderful years before her death on January 1, 2006. At the beginning of their marriage, they worked together picking cotton to make a living. In 1954, W.J. attended a trade school where he learned the art of bricklaying and worked on many projects in Southwest Oklahoma until his retirement. Fishing, boating, water skiing, working in the yard and raising tomatoes were some of his hobbies, but spending time with his family and friends were the important things in his life.
Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five sisters and six brothers, W.J. is survived by two daughters, Donna Kirouac and husband Roger of Altus and Doris Stebbens and husband Rick of Altus; four grandchildren, Kim Gray of Altus, Melissa Gaulden, of Altus, Todd Kirouac of Altus and Jeffery Stebbens of Oklahoma City; three great-grandchildren, Devan Gray of Russelville, Arkansas, Jason Gray of Altus and Joshua Gaulden of Altus along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services for W.J. Risinger will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Altus City Cemetery with Rev John Webb officiating. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends from 6 until 7 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2008, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
