Obituary for Virginia Lee Bowman

Virginia Lee (Lynch) Bowman, 87, passed away on March 30, 2023 in Mangum, Oklahoma. Virginia was born on October 2,1935 in Alex, Oklahoma to Luther Virgil Lynch and Frankie Lee (Burnham) Lynch. She was the oldest of four children. Virginia always worked hard and believed if you were healthy, you should be working hard to provide for your family. Virginia, also known as Nana, did just that. She worked in the hop fields of Oregon, the cotton fields of Oklahoma, she also worked at the Mangum Nursing Home as a manager, Mangum Regional Medical Center as a respiratory therapist assistant, a bus driver in Gillette, Wyoming and she even worked in a fish cannery in Kenai, Alaska. However, her favorite job was taking care of children. She worked at Little Bronco Daycare and Tiger Cub for many years. Virginia adored the children, and they adored her. She believed you can make a difference in a child’s life if you simply love them.

In 1951, she met Ray “Eugene” Bowman. Eugene would drive out to Brinkman, Oklahoma and take Virginia to the movies, he also took her to her first wrestling match. They were married August 20, 1951. Together they farmed and worked hard from Louisiana to Texas, to Alaska to Wyoming to Oklahoma. She remained faithful at his side for seventy-one years. They have five children: Donnie, Allen, Shirlene, Elton, and Shelly. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest treasures. She loved unconditionally. She was also a member of the Red River Cowboy Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Brothers, Luther Dewain Lynch and Virgel Elmo Lynch; and Sister, Willie Lorraine.

Left to honor her loving memory is her husband, Ray Eugene Bowman; Sons, Donnie Bowman and wife Kathy, Allen Bowman and wife Debbie, and Elton Bowman; Daughters, Shirlene Griffis and husband Joe, and Shelly Bowman; Twelve grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchilden; as well as a host of other family members and friends.
