Virgie Cecil Hendricks, age 102, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Mangum, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, in Wichita.
Mrs. Hendricks was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on December 4, 1910, to Will and Isabel Paskell. Moving to Greer County in her early thirties, she met Scott Hendricks and they were married on April 8, 1942. Through the years, Scott and Virgie owned and operated cafes in Mangum and Altus, worked on the farm together and raised cattle to make a living. In her spare time, Virgie enjoyed cooking, quilting, fishing and spending time with her friends and family.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Scott; two sisters, Alice Anderson and Mary Paskell and one brother, Andrew Paskell she is survived by five children, Sammy Norwood of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Betty Burris Nutt of Texarkana, Arkansas, Miles Coulbert of Pampa, Texas, William Ayers of Hobart and Harold (John) Harris of Hobart; eighteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Virgie Hendricks will be at 2 p.m., Monday, September 9, 2013, at the Mangum Church of Christ with Brother James Reed and Pastor James Callins officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
Mrs. Hendricks will lie in state at Greer Funeral Home on Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 1 until 8 p.m.
