Obituary for Vicente Macias
Vicente Macias, Sr., a longtime resident of Childress, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2026, in Baylor Lake, Texas, at the age of 81.
Vicente was born on April 5, 1946, in Lubbock, Texas, to Jose C. Macias, Sr. and Juanita (Ortiz) Macias. He was raised and educated in Hollis, Oklahoma.
After completing his formal education, Vicente began working and quickly developed a reputation for his strong work ethic and practical knowledge. He spent much of his career working at American Gypsum, where he dedicated thirty-five years of faithful service.
Vicente was a lifelong Catholic and a founding member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He was baptized in Alamo, Texas, and as a young boy served as an altar boy when ground was first broken for Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Hollis, Oklahoma. When the Macias family first moved to Hollis, the community did not yet have a Catholic church. In response, his parents opened their home so Mass could be celebrated in their living room. Vicente remained proud throughout his life to have been part of the founding of the church and the faith community that grew from those early gatherings.
In his free time, Vicente enjoyed fishing, gardening, building things, and doing carpentry work. He was known for his strong work ethic, his quiet but caring nature, and his wonderful sense of humor. Above all, Vicente was deeply devoted to his family. He loved them dearly and often showed that love not through words, but through his actions, hard work, and unwavering dedication to those he cared for.
He is survived by his children, Marta Macias; Alejandro Macias and wife Stormy; Nicolas Macias and fiancé Taryn Norton; and Olivia Macias. He is also survived by his siblings, Jose Macias, Sr. and wife Virginia, and AnaMarie Aguilar and husband Candelario. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Ronald Theadman, Jr., Russel Theadman, Brian Reed, Traci Earls, Keegan Macias and wife Haylie, Mikal and Michael Bennett, Christopher Macias and wife Caitlin, Coryn Thorn and husband Dustin, Camri Macias, Jacob Macias and wife Carrie, Mia Macias, Sebastian Macias, Audra Macias, Rayleigh Duran, Ayden Gamboa, Kayzleigh Norton, Brynleigh Norton, Augustin Macias, and Adrian Macias; as well as his great-grandchildren, Jesse Theadman, Juanito Theadman, Milyia-Rose Theadman, Lana Jo Earls, Brooklynn Earls, Tripp Earls, Emily Earls, Marci Earls, Kylynn Macias, Kenton Macias, Keelie Macias, Rosalee Macias, Christopher Macias, Jr., and Chloelynn Thorn, along with many extended family members and loved ones. Vicente was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juanita "Janie" Macias; his parents, Jose and Juanita Macias; his sons, Miguel Angel Macias and Vicente Macias, Jr.; and his grandson, Michael John Macias.
Vicente will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, and the legacy of hard work and kindness he leaves behind.
