BARKER
Ernestine Barker, age 91, of Mangum, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 24, 2009, at Grace Living Center, in Mangum.
Mrs. Barker was born on September 15, 1918, in Madill, Oklahoma to William Jackson and Susan Ann (Coffey) Blewett. At an early age, she moved to the Lake Creek area and later to Reed. On December 17, 1935, she married Kenneth Byram Barker and they spent a short time living in Oklahoma City while Kenneth was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base. In 1974, Ernestine began cooking for Mangum School and retired in 1985. Making crafts, knitting and raising flowers were things that she enjoyed doing, but spending time spoiling her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren was what she loved most in life.
Preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers, six sisters, one daughter, Mary Sheppard and one son-in-law, Rex Sheppard, she is survived by one son, Darrell Barker and wife Shirley of Sayre; one sister, Irene Trook of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren, Kenneth Barker and wife Mary, Kimberly Howerton, Karen Fite and Sherrie Denise Kendall and husband Keith; eleven great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Ernestine Barker will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, in Mangum, with Pastor John Robles officiating. Interment will follow at Granite Rock Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends on Monday from 6 until 7 p.m. at Greer Funeral Home.
