Vera Lois Falkner, age 96, of Granite, passed away early Sunday morning, June 27, 2010, at English Village Nursing Home in Altus.
Mrs. Falkner was born on June 16, 1914, in Lubbock, Texas to Macie John and Myrtle Emma (Bockman) Jones. Moving to the Vinson area, as a child, in a covered wagon, Vera attended Vinson School, graduating in May of 1935. On July 24, 1940, she married Obie Jackson Falkner, the love of her life, and they spent the next forty-six wonderful years together before his death in 1986. The family made several moves with Obie"s job, finally settling in Tucumcari, New Mexico where they farmed for several years. In 1992, Vera moved to Granite where she lived until November of 2009, when her health began to fail. Playing with her grandbabies, traveling, eating great food, making picture albums of her family and playing board games were some of her favorite pastimes. She was very proud that she mowed her own yard until she was ninety-four.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband and five brothers, she is survived by one daughter, Vera Ross and husband Harlan of Granite; one granddaughter, Shelbie Phillips and husband Robert of Oklahoma City; two great grandsons, Logan Scott Phillips and Wyatt Jackson Phillips and several nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services for Vera Falkner will be at 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Riverside Cemetery with Rev. Ben Van Vacter officiating. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
