Obituary for Venita Lee Davis
Venita Lee Davis, 98, a longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away March 1, 2021, at her home in Altus, Oklahoma.
Venita was born on January 17, 1923, in Eldorado, Oklahoma, to Perry Lee Lane and Amanda Arvilla (Cheek) Lane. She was raised on a farm southwest of Eldorado. She loved talking about her family life on the farm. Growing up on a farm in the great dust bowl-shaped her life, it made her strong, selfless, caring, very family-oriented, and reliant on prayer. At the young age of eleven, she dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and was baptized with her brother in Sandy Creek near Eldorado, Oklahoma. Her relationship with Jesus was evident in everything she did and would continue until her passing. Venita graduated from Eldorado High School in 1941. Following high school, she attended Hills Business School studying business and accounting. On June 4, 1944, at the Eldorado First Baptist Church, Venita married Wayne Davis. She worked as an accountant at Dascomb Daniels, the Ford Dealership, and Jackson County Hospital. Venita was many things to many people; she was an adventurer who loved to travel, a fun willed care hearted woman who loved to go to the dances with her husband on Saturday nights, an avid golfer, a loving mother, and a caretaker to all she came in contact with. She was a member of the Altus First Baptist Church since 1940 and has served on numerous committees and boards at the church, but her favorite was serving as a third-grade Bible study teacher.
She was greeted at the gates of heaven by her husband of fifty–eight years, Wayne Davis, her father, Perry Lee Lane; her mother, Amanda Arvilla (Cheek) Lane; brother, Wayne Lloyd Lane; sisters, Verna Clay Abbott, and Wilma Jo Miner.
Venita is survived by her loving Son, Douglas “Doug” Lee Davis, who has cared for her and by her side for many years, her beloved nieces, nephews, and numerous extended family and friends.
The Davis family would like to say thank you from the bottom of their heart to Jackson County Home Health and Jackson County Hospice for their dedication and love they provided Venita. A special thank you to Beverly, Suzanne, and Terry. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
