Tommy Davis, age 80, longtime resident of Blair, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022 at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Tommy was born in Dallas, Texas on January 19, 1941 to his parents Grady Edward Davis and Sarah Isabel (Meneley) Powell. At an early age the family moved to Vacaville, California where Tommy was raised and went to school. Before finishing high school, at the age of 17, Tommy enlisted into the United States Air Force and served his country from 1958 until 1961 and he received an honorable discharge as well as numerous awards and decorations. Tommy also served two years in the Air Force Reserves. The Air Force landed Tommy at Altus Air Force Base as a Crew Chief. While stationed at Altus he met the love of his life Elveta Gray from Blair and they were united in marriage on February 28, 1962 and they enjoyed over 56 years of marriage before Elveta's death in 2018. They began their married life in Blair, Oklahoma, moved to Dallas, Texas, and finally they moved back to Blair where they have resided since 1972. Tommy worked for HL Myatt drilling water wells and then he went to work for the LTV Mechanical in Dallas working on Airplanes and Helicopters for service in the Vietnam War. The family moved back to Blair where Tommy worked for HL Myatt again and then he went to work as a Grain Elevator Operator in Hobart for the Farmer's Coop where he worked many years until he retired. After retiring he went to work using the City of Blair's equipment for mowing and the City put him on the pay roll. Tommy was a longtime member of the Blair First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, sound board operator, and he helped start the church's first website. He was an important part of the Blair Bluegrass Festival that he helped start. He helped put the RV Park together and helped build stages for the festival. Tommy enjoyed working with computers, CB radios, wood working, gun clubs and making his own ammo, Two Stepping, and sometimes fishing. Tommy served his country and his community and had so many talents and achievments. But what he treasured most, was his family, especially his wife Elveta. She was the most important part of Tommy's life and he did everything he could to be the best man and the best husband he could for Elveta.
