Theresa Louise Coffman, age 48, of Granite, passed away Friday afternoon, March 22, 2013, at her El Reno, Oklahoma residence.
Mrs. Coffman was born in New York City, New York on February 14, 1965, to James and Janet (Appis) Hatcher. Growing up in Queens Village, Theresa attended John Bowne High School and was a member of the Future Farmers of America Chapter, graduating in 1983. After high school she worked at Cribbin House, a home for disabled and multi-handicapped adults. Moving to Edmond, Oklahoma from New York, Theresa worked for Edmond Animal Control for a short time before returning to New York. Returning to Oklahoma, she was employed as a habilitation specialist for the Department of Human Services for a time, a jailor for the Oklahoma County Jail, and later worked for Corrections Corporation of America in Cushing and Watonga as a guard. In 1993, she was introduced to Robert Coffman and they were married on April 8, 1995. In 2000, Theresa began working as a correctional officer at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in El Reno, Oklahoma and was a Senior Correctional Officer at the time of her death. Theresa was also the founder of "Cruise for Cancer Charity". A very compassionate and caring person, Theresa loved being in the open air riding her Harley and spending time with those she loved, especially her beloved Robert.
Preceded in death by her grandparents and one niece, Jessica Hatcher, she is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home; her parents, James and Janet Hatcher of Edmond; two sisters, Laura Harrison and husband Glen of Yukon and Kathy Josepher and husband Bob of Long Island, New York; three brothers, David Hatcher and wife Pauline of Long Island, New York; Eric Hatcher of Edmond, Gary Hatcher and fianc" Barbara Lawrence of Edmond along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.
Theresa Coffman will lie in state at Greer Funeral Home, in Mangum, from noon Monday until 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013. A Rosary will be said at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel, in Altus, with a visitation following the Rosary. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, in Altus. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
