Teresia Irene King, age 77, of Mangum, passed away late Tuesday evening, October 11, 2016, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.
Mrs. King was born in Rhineland, Texas on May 30, 1939, to Lawrence Henry and Roxy Lorene (Washburn) Birkenfeld. Moving to Nazareth, Texas as a child, Teresia grew up and graduated from Nazareth High School in 1957. Going directly to St. Anthony Nursing School, in Amarillo, Texas, Teresia received her Registered Nursing Degree and for the next forty years, she provided excellent care for her patients at St. Anthony Hospital and the Veteran"s Hospital, in Amarillo. When she retired in 2000, she was the night supervisor at the Veteran"s Hospital. On May 14, 1976, she married the love of her life, Bobby Dwaine King, and they spent the next forty wonderful years together before her death. After Teresia retired, she oversaw "Kings Art Gallery" in Amarillo. In 2001, she and Bobby moved to Mangum where she continued to paint and enjoy the time she had with family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Birkenfeld, Teresia is survived by her husband, Bobby King, of the home; five children, Alen Stripling of Amarillo, Patricia Stripling of Amarillo, Melody Cearley of Fritch, Texas, Cliff Schraag of Mangum and Ross King of Fritch, Texas; two sisters, Virginia Podzemny and husband Daniel of Amarillo and Magalin Hill and husband E.L. of Amarillo; four brothers, Henry Birkenfeld and wife Fatemia of Bristol, Rhode Island, Julius Birkenfield and wife Kathy of Nazareth, Texas, Anthony Birkenfeld and wife Patricia of Amarillo, Texas and Samuel Birkenfeld and wife Nancy of Amarillo; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Mangum. Interment will follow at White Flat Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, of Mangum.
