Obituary for Teresa Darlene Usher
During the early morning hours of June 21, 2026, Teresa Darlene Usher heard the words she had
spent her life longing to hear: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." With her earthly race
run, she stepped into the glorious presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of
sixtyseven.
Teresa was born on January 23, 1959, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to J.E. Andrews and Corena (Pope)
Andrews. From an early age, her life was firmly rooted in faith. Raised in church, she developed
a deep love for God's Word and began teaching Sunday School while still a young girl. What
began as a simple willingness to serve soon blossomed into a lifelong calling to teach,
encourage, and minister to others.
In the mideighties, she completed her Christian school teaching certification and began teaching
at Quartz Mountain Christian Academy in Granite, Oklahoma. Teresa later earned her education
degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and went on to invest more than thirty years
in public education. She spent two years with Tipton Public Schools and devoted twentyeight
years to Snyder Public Schools, serving the majority of those years as a Special Education
teacher and her final years as a fourthgrade teacher before retiring in 2024.
To Teresa, teaching was never simply a profession-it was a ministry. She saw every child as a
precious creation of God and poured herself into the lives of her students with extraordinary
compassion. She was known for going far beyond the requirements of her job, providing meals,
encouragement, prayers, and whatever else was needed. On one occasion, she purchased an
entire wardrobe for a student who had none. Her classroom became a sanctuary of acceptance,
hope, dignity, and love. Countless students found not only an educator in Teresa, but also an
advocate, mentor, and friend.
Yet her influence extended far beyond the classroom.
Teresa was a gifted minister of the Gospel, a talented singer, and an accomplished musician who
shared her gifts through piano, bass guitar, and song. She faithfully preached God's Word
wherever He opened a door, leading many souls to Christ throughout her lifetime. One of her
cherished memories was leading a young man to the Lord during a tent revival-a young man
who later became a renowned minister carrying the Gospel across the world. Moments like these
were among her greatest treasures, for nothing brought Teresa more joy than seeing lives
transformed by the love of Christ.
God's providence brought another great blessing into her life when she met a young pastor
named Gary Usher. On their very first date, over a fifteencent Coke, Gary asked her to marry
him. What began with a simple conversation grew into a beautiful partnership that would span
more than fifty years of marriage, ministry, and service to the Kingdom of God.
Together, Gary and Teresa faithfully planted and pastored churches across Oklahoma. They
served within both the Rose Assembly and Assemblies of God fellowships, including planting
Rose Assembly Church in Cheyenne and pastoring Rose Assembly in Oklahoma City, Mountain Park Assembly of God, and currently pastoring at Rose Assembly in Mangum. They also spent four years traveling as evangelists, carrying the message
of salvation throughout the nation. Side by side, they dedicated their lives to serving others,
building churches, strengthening believers, and sharing the hope found only in Christ.
While Teresa's ministry touched countless lives, her greatest earthly joy was her family. She was
a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a deeply cherished grandmother. She never missed an
opportunity to celebrate a milestone, attend an event, offer encouragement, or create lasting
memories with those she loved. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and hospitality,
where everyone was welcomed and cared for. Whether preparing a meal, offering wise counsel,
or simply listening with a compassionate heart, Teresa had a unique ability to make people feel
valued and loved.
Those left to treasure her memory include her beloved husband, Gary Usher; her son, Chaplain
(Major) G.L. Usher and wife Felicia; her daughter, Colene Babcock and husband Robert; her
grandsons, Maxx and Mitchell Babcock and Samuel and Emmanuel Usher; her brother, Donnie
Andrews and wife Karri; along with a host of extended family members, church family, former
students, and dear friends whose lives were forever changed by her faith, kindness, and example.
She was welcomed into Heaven by those who preceded her in death: her beloved son, Brian
Newell Usher; her father, J.E. Andrews; and her mother, Corena Andrews, who passed away on
January 1, 2026.
Teresa's life was a testimony to the transforming power of God's grace. She possessed a
servant's heart, a humble spirit, and an unwavering faith that guided every aspect of her life. She
fed the hungry, clothed the needy, encouraged the discouraged, prayed for the hurting, taught the
young, and faithfully proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her influence cannot be measured
merely by years lived, but by lives touched.
Though her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the certainty that Teresa has received the
eternal reward promised to those who faithfully serve their Lord. Her legacy lives on in every
student she encouraged, every soul she helped lead to Christ, every church she helped build, her
children, every grandson she adored, and every life she touched through her boundless love.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home Chapel, Altus, Oklahoma with interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma.
