Obituary for Temple House Bailey
Funeral services for Judge Temple Bailey, retired Associate District Judge of Jackson County, will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Judge Bailey died Friday, January 19th, 1990. He had been Associate District Judge and Special District Judge for 17 years prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Bailey Rule and grandsons Joshua and Jonathan of Atlanta, Georgia; his sister, Mrs. Dennis Holt of Altus, OK; two brothers, Travis Bailey of San Antonio, TX and Haskell Bailey of Kerrville, TX; many nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Virginia Holt Thomas of Altus, OK.
Judge Bailey was born on May 31st, 1909 in the Navajoe Community, Oklahoma. He attended Altus High School. He received his law degree from Cumberland University in Tennessee.
Memberships include numerous organizations in addition to the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Oklahoma Judicial Conference. In recent years he had shared offices with Hal Grider, Altus attorney.
The son of Altus pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Bailey, Judge Bailey and Phyllis Seago were married September 3, 1936. She had come to Altus as a Drama Instructor at the High School and at Altus Junior College. Following her death he began ranching activities, specializing in Tennessee Walking Horses.
He and Marjorie Pickerell were married in 1978, establishing a home on a ranch east of Altus as well as an Altus resident.
During World War II, he was in the United States Navy and had remained active in patriotic and civic organizations since returning to Altus including the Kiwanis Club.
He is also survived by step-children, Mike and Sharon Pickerell, Gober and David Pickerell of Dallas, TX.
