Sue Dean Young, a beloved resident of Carrollton, Texas, and formerly of Mangum, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, in Plano, Texas. Born on April 28, 1936, to Emmett and Nannie (Mour) Powell in Mangum, Oklahoma, Sue was raised and educated in her hometown, graduating from Mangum Public Schools.
Sue’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith, deep love for her family, and adventurous spirit. She met and married the love of her life, John Henry Young, and together they built a life filled with love, faith, and service. As an Air Force wife, Sue embraced the journey of raising their family across the globe, living in Mangum, Oklahoma; Panama City, Florida; Orlando, Florida; Riverside, California; Sacramento, California; Hurst, Texas; Frankfurt, Germany; and finally settling in Carrollton, Texas. Though she traveled far and wide, Mangum always held a special place in her heart, and she considered Rose Assembly her home church.
A devoted Christian, Sue’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She loved Jesus deeply and found joy in studying the Bible. One of her greatest achievements was instilling the Word of God in her children, ensuring that her legacy of faith would endure for generations.
Sue had a lifelong passion for animals, cherishing her horses, donkeys, ducks, and especially her beloved dogs. Her love for Dobermans was unmatched, and her gentle heart always found room for these loyal companions, even when they outweighed her.
Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Henry Young, in 2004, as well as her parents, Emmett and Nannie Powell. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, survived by her children: Mona McFarland of Flower Mound, Texas; John Young of Carrollton, Texas; Tim Young of Carrollton, Texas; and stepdaughter Mary Ann Van Swearingen of Gladys Stone, Virginia. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Eric, Murray, Jeremiah, Harrison, John Young, and eight additional grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory.
