She worked for Public Supply in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma helping to construct commercial and residential windows before retiring in 2000. When Shirley retired in 2000, she returned home to Altus, Oklahoma.

She had a unique and special relationship with each of her children. Her children were great, but her grandchildren were her world. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and lavishing them with attention. Shirley had a special bond with her great-granddaughter, Eavenly Welch, from her birth they were inseparable.
Shirley was in the Baptist church and was baptized in her teenage years at Tabernacle Baptist Church. For many years she attended Perry Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Duke; Mother Rosa Lee Duke, son, Rodger Clark, brothers, Delbert, Benny, Donald; sisters, Alice, Ruthy, Darlene, Palet; and great-grandson Lazaro Yanez, Jr.
