Obituary for Shirley "Gran" Christian
My name is Shirley Christian. I'm writing my own obituary to save my family the embarrassment of not having anything noteworthy to say about my life. I passed away on October 8, 2018.
I was born on November 12, 1934 to Nevel and Alice Staton Lewis at a little community called Sandy. Shortly after my birth we moved to the LaCasa community. That's where my sister and I went to school. LaCasa was the greatest little community in the world.
After graduating high school, I went to work at the First State bank & Trust co. in Hollis. I also worked at the First National Bank in Amarillo, Hollis Livestock Commission and Harmon County Co-Op.
The best thing I ever did was accept Jesus Christ into my life. He carried me through a lot of years. The next best thing I did was marry my soulmate-Dwain. We had 43 great years before the Lord called him home in 2011. We were blessed with three children-Donna, Marty, and Keila- grandchildren Shana, Shane, Tori, BJ, Sam and Adam. We have one great grandchild- Te'unah and several nieces and nephews. Also a truckload of grandchildren by choice.
I had a good life with my wonderful parents, Nevel and Alice, my grandparents, Henry and Sina, and my fabulous sister Joann. I also had great uncles, aunts and cousins. I know I acted crazy too much but that was just me. Of course, there were a few bumps along the way, but they only made me stronger. One doctor even told me I was a "tough old bird". I really loved my life.
The good thing about this is I can say "Thank You" to all who have helped me so much. To all of you who cared for me, did so many things for me, helped me through the tough times, laughed with me, cried with me, I was truly blessed by knowing you.
If you ever think of me-forgive someone who doesn't deserve it and try to make someone smile every day.
I'm survived by Donna Thompson and Bart of Hollis, Keila Luna and Ben of Hollis, Shana Thompson, Te'unah and Daunte' of Carrollton Tx, Shane Thompson of Highlands Tx, Tori Miller and Casey of Shamrock Tx, BJ, Sam and Adam Luna of Hollis.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Dodson Church of Christ in Dodson, Texas.
In-Urnment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis, Oklahoma under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
