McDANIEL
Shirlen Ann McDaniel, age 76, of Altus, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 16, 2013, at Plantation Village Care Center, in Altus.
Mrs. McDaniel was born in Martha, Oklahoma on September 5, 1937, to Gus and Thelma (Lankford) Boyd. After graduating from Martha School in 1955, she married the love of her life, Roy McDaniel, on December 30, 1957, in Vernon, Texas and they spent the next fifty-five wonderful years together. A longtime member of the Baptist Church, Shirlen was involved in the church’s education program for many years. Shirlen attended Glorieta and Ridgecrest Baptist Conferences for ten years, preschool workshops at Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas and 200 plus hours of Church Study Courses and Preschool and Children’s Workshops at Falls Creek. She was the Preschool Director at Grambell Street Baptist Church, Ft. Worth, Texas 1968-70, Woodlawn Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 1973-78 and served as Preschool and Children Director at First Baptist Church in Altus for over ten years. Not only was she involved in her work of the church, she was Roy’s right arm for over thirty years as he served as a Baptist minister. Collecting chickens, Precious Moments statutes, and Christmas trees was an enjoyment to Shirlen, but she also enjoyed the time they spent at Branson. Shirlen’s love for her family and others was evident, even in the twilight years of her life, with the hugs and kisses she gave to visitors and staff at Corn Heritage Village and Plantation Village.
Preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Rev. Billy Milam, she is survived by her husband, Roy, of the home in Altus; three children, Pamela Sue Keck of Altus, Wilbur Glenn McDaniel and wife Connie of Denham Springs, Louisiana and Patricia June Luebking and husband Mike of Altus; 8 grandchildren, Timothy John Keck and wife Kristen of Altus, Matthew Boyd Keck of Altus, Meghan Lee Flores and husband Carlos of Odenville, Alabama, Sarah Ann McDaniel and fiancée Timothy Neathery of Denham Springs, Louisiana, Elizabeth Marie McDaniel of Denham Springs, Louisiana, Sgt. Michael Glenn Luebking and wife Jeme of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, Tara Ann Block and fiancée Brandon Rumsey of Altus and Sgt. Mark Lee Luebking and wife Lisa of Ft. Benning, Georgia; four great grandchildren, Kaylee Keck, Alyssa Keck, Kynlee Keck and Cali Block; two sisters, Betty Walker and husband Wilbur of Altus and June Milam of Springdale Arkansas; a very special friend, Calton Moore along with many other relatives and friends.
