NORRIS

Ruby Marie (Fowler) Norris, age 94 of Mangum, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2017, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center, in Mangum, after an extended illness.

Ruby was born October 23, 1922, in Eldorado, Oklahoma to James Henry and Ellen Mary (Smith) Fowler. She married Frank Clifton Norris of Richardson TX, November 19, 1942, in Quanah, TX and they were married for 57 years. Ruby was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She made a Christian home for her children and as they and her grandchildren were growing up, she had a passion for teaching them the Old and New Testament stories to ingrain in them a knowledge of God's word that would last for their entire lives. Ruby was a life-long learner herself. She spent 50 plus years teaching Bible classes in churches of Christ. She was a talented artist, painting many oil paintings for friends and family, she did painting as a hobby and spent time painting baptisteries, would do illustrations for her bible classes including detailed chalk drawings for her classes to bring the Bible stories to life for the students.

She was very proud that she went through all 12 years of school, which was an exception in her family. She took years of art classes, she attended bookkeeping classes to help her husband in his Upholstery business. She took interior design classes as well. She spent her early years raising calves and bottle feeding infant calves, she also rode horses for many years of her life. She spent 7 to 10 years attending Preaching School and Bible Chair in Altus, continuing her study and knowledge of God's inspired words. She especially enjoyed her study of the Epistles and the History and Culture of Bible times, which she used as teaching materials for her 5th and 6th grade Bible school classes. She would spend hours each day listening to Bible Sermon tapes/CD's even up to the last days of her life because growing in the knowledge of God's words was such a priority for her. Ruby and her family lived in Richardson, TX for a time then relocated to Mangum, OK in 1969. She worked in an Envelope Factory, Gibson's store and a Clothing story in Mangum as well as did sewing alterations. She enjoyed spending time with her children, visiting with them in Mangum, Moore and Edgewood TX. She often called relatives weekly to keep in touch and encourage them if they were going through struggles, even when her own health was declining. She especially enjoyed her church friends, spending time with them at every opportunity and when home-bound, continued to stay in touch through phone calls and whenever possible.

Ruby is survived by her three daughters, Peggy Jacobs and son-in-law James of Edgewood, TX. Judy Kennedy and son-in-law Jim of Moore, OK; Cheri Bentley Lazenby and son-in-law Tom of Mangum, OK. One son, Jim Norris of Mangum, OK. One sister, Vennie Walker of Altus, OK. One sister-in-law Betty Housewright and her husband J.W. of Greenville, TX.
