Obituary for Rosa Lee Pruett
Rosa Lee (McAlexander) Pruett was born September 22, 1920, at Reed, Oklahoma, to W.L. and
Agnes (Harbour) McAlexander. Except for living in Mangum, OK, for two years as a child, she
lived all her life in the Jay Buckle and Reed communities. She passed away September 10, 2013, in her home at Reed, OK at the age of 92. She would have been 93 years of age on September 22.
She attended Jay Buckle School until it consolidated with Reed in the fall of 1934. She
graduated from Reed High School as valedictorian in 1938, which was the first graduating class
in the new building.
On September 29, 1940, Clarence Pruett, also of Reed, and Rosa Lee McAlexander were united
in marriage in the home of Bro. O.S. Brewer at Mangum. Clarence and Rosa Lee had graduated
the same year from Reed. They were married 72 years at the time of her death. They would have
been married 73 years on September 29. She was a housewife and a devoted and loving wife and
mother to her family as well as a helpmate with their farming and ranching operation until
Clarence retired from ranching in 2002.
To this union, two daughters were born, Barbara Louise and Gloria Aline.
Rosa Lee was saved in 1936 and became a member of the Sulphur Missionary Baptist Church,
Reed, in 1938 where she continued to be a faithful and dedicated member until her health failed.
She also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Serving in a rural church, preachers
and evangelists usually traveled from a distance and the Pruetts opened their home unselfishly for
meals and lodging for pastors and visiting preachers all of their lives.
She is survived by her husband Clarence Pruett of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Louise
and Larry Paxton, Blair, OK; and Gloria and Randy Mosley, Snyder, OK; one grandson, Brandon
