Ronald Lee Myers, age 79 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
Ronald Lee Myers was born in Onawa, IA on October 19, 1941 to Earl Clayton and Naomi Juanita Myers. After the loss of his father, he was raised by his mother and Carl Gustaf Carlson. He graduated from Bronson High School in 1959. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country honorably for four years with tours in England and Korea. His last station was in the place he would always consider his home, Altus, Okla. He joined the Altus Police Department as a rookie on May 1, 1971. While on the force he served as a detective, patrolman, negotiator, interim chief of police and retired as a captain on June 30, 2004. To provide for his family, he also took jobs as a masoner and spent many Christmas seasons working security for businesses in Altus. During retirement, he worked as a ranger for the Quartz Mountain Golf Course and football game security for the Altus High School Alumni Association.
Although his career gave so much joy, family is what mattered most. He met the love of his life, Carol, while she was working at the Friendship Inn as a waitress. Although they knew immediately they would spend the rest of their lives together, they dated for a year before being married in Vernon, TX on June 8, 1973. Together they raised five children who were never far from his heart. Ron was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and lived for college football game days when he cheered for his beloved OSU Cowboys and OU Sooners.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol, his children: Darie Myers and wife, Tina; Gloria Myers; Brenda Benivamondez and husband, Martin; Jimmy Myers and husbands, Terry Allen and Josh Powell; and Megan Myers-Winkler and husband, Josh; grandchildren Ashley Grayson, Michael Grayson, Tanner Grayson, Kendra Myers and Kylie Myers; his great-grandchildren Emmett, Bentlee, Aubree and Levi; and his three siblings: Carlene Bird, Connie Robak and Anita Robak.
He is preceded in death by mother, Naomi Carlson; father, Earl Clayton Myers; stepfather, Carl Gustaf Carlson; brother, Wayne Carlson; and grandson, Glenn Myers.
