Romie Willis, 74 year old lifelong resident of Altus, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Kindred Hospital North in Oklahoma City.
Our beloved Romie was born in Altus on August 16, 1942 to his parents Johnny B. Willis and Roma (Kirby) Willis. He graduated class of 1960 from Lincoln High School in Altus. On October 29, 1963; he married Onetta (Horton) in Altus and they have enjoyed almost 53 years of marriage together. Romie worked for the City of Altus Electric Department for over 38 years as a lineman, foreman, and as the Assistant Superintendent until his retirement in 2006. He was known as a very hard worker and mentor to his fellow coworkers. In 1995, he received the Marvin Hicks " Al Middleton Meritorious Service Award from the Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma for his outstanding career contributions to the City of Altus and the Public Power Industry of Oklahoma. He was active with the Lincoln High School Alumni. He enjoyed playing, coaching, and refereeing basketball and baseball where he was also a mentor to the kids he coached. He also coached his children and grandson in various sports. He was inducted into the Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame for Baseball. Some of his favorite things were watching Joel Olsten television broadcasts and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Romie loved and took outstanding care of his family, he was a valued employee for the City of Altus, and he will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Donnie, Bruce, and Johnny Willis; Romie is survived by his wife Onetta Willis of the home; his son, Patrick Willis of Altus; and two daughters, Sheila Willis of Altus; and Krystal Willis of Oklahoma City; one brother, Jimmy Willis and wife Rosie of Las Vegas; one sister, Kathy Willis of Las Vegas; his grandson, Robert Manning, III of Tulsa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Robert Bostic officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
