Obituary for Roger Lee Abernathy
Roger Lee Abernathy, age 72, longtime Altus and Jackson County resident passed away Wednesday, June 23, 1999. He was born June 9, 1927 at Altus, Oklahoma, to the Pioneer Parents of Charles Oscar and Lillie (Rogers) Abernathy on a farm Southeast of Altus, which was homesteaded by his grandfather, George Rogers.
In 1944 Roger graduated from Ozark School. On March 19, 1954 at Cordell, Oklahoma and Mary Teague Fisher were united in marriage. She preceded him in death January 24, 1998.
Roger owned and operated a dairy of registered Jerseys for over 55 years, which his father started in the 1930's. Roger also raided wheat, cotton, alfalfa, oats, grasses and beef cattle. He was active in the 4-H Club as a youth, and as an adult volunteer leader. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Altus. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 1999 at 2:00pm in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Roger is survived by his three children, Dee Ann Kime and husband George of Altus, Oklahoma, Janie Cupp and husband Tim of Plano, Texas, Eddie Abernathy of Altus, Oklahoma; three brothers,
Raymond Abernathy and wife Tommy of Altus, Oklahoma, Dan Abernathy of Clinton, Oklahoma, Charles Abernathy and wife Mary of Altus, Oklahoma, two sisters, Velma Abernathy and Mildred Rowlett both of Altus, Oklahoma; five randchildren, Patrick Cupp and Jason Cupp of Plano, Texas, William Kime, Debra Kime, Cynthia Kime all of Altus, Oklahoma, a host of nieces, nephews cousins, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lillie Abernathy, his wife, Mary Teague Abernathy.
Family will have visitation Friday evening June 25, 1999 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
