Obituary for Robert Sprague Srigley
Dr. Robert S. Srigley, age 58, prominent physician and surgeon of Altus, died last night at Jackson Memorial Hospital at 9:45 P.M., following a coronary attack suffered at his residence a few hours before.
Funeral services have been set for 2:00 P.M., Monday at the First United Methodist Church, officiated by Dr. Wifford Jones and assisted by Reverend C.C. Gober. Burial will be in Altus City Cemetery under direction of Lowell Funeral Home.
Born July 11th, 1914 in Athens, Ohio, Dr. Srigley was graduated from Ohio University, Phi Betta Kappa and graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1939. He was married to the former Gretchen Hedges at Ashville, Ohio on November 14, 1943. They established a practice in Hollis in 1947 coming there from Ardmore. In 1957, Dr. Srigley moved to Altus. A never ending list of his accomplishments include: Assistant Chief of Staff, Jackson County Memorial Hospital, Fellow American College of Surgeons, American Board of Family Relations, American Medical Association, Fellow American Boars of Abdominal Surgery and a host of additional honorary and specialized medical organizations and fields. He was an active Rotarian and a membver of the First United Methodist Church where he served in the choir. He was a Veteran of World War II.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Gretchen of the home, include: one son, Robert Sprague Srigley, Jr., of Missoula, Montana; two daughters, Mrs. Robert "Pam" Bazewicz of Norman and Mrs. Gary "Penny" Ledbetter of Altus.
The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that consideration be given to the Heart Fund or special educational funds be given through the First United Medical Church directed toward educational scholarships.
