Obituary for Robert Lee “Bob” Darby
Robert Lee "Bob" Darby was born in Altus, Oklahoma on December 22, 1945. His parents were Lloyd Blake Darby and Patsy Ruth Barton Darby.
Bob married his life-long love Robetha Masters on January 23, 1966 at the Duke First Baptist Church; they celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary this year.
In high school, Bob was an athlete and a talented baseball catcher playing with the American Legion. He was also an outstanding basketball player who remained an avid Duke Tiger Fan. Bob was the valedictorian of the 1964 Duke High School graduating class then graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He received numerous honors and was member of the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society and the Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity where he made many life-long friends. In 2019, Bob was recognized for his 50 years as a Golden Pharmacist.
Bob began his career as a pharmacist at Conrad Mar in Midwest City and later moved to Muskogee, where he opened the Gibson Pharmacy. At the same time, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1969 where he served until 1974. In 1974, he served one year in the Army National Guard of Oklahoma with the 171st Field Artillery where he received an honorable discharge.
Bob and his family returned home to Duke in 1974 where he farmed. In 1979, he purchased the Clinic Pharmacy in Hollis, OK. He and Robetha owned the pharmacy and served the Hollis community for 40 years.
Bob was a Christian and lived his life demonstrating those values by quietly helping others in need. Baptized as a child, he became a member of the Duke First Baptist Church where he served as an usher, a Sunday School teacher, and a valued member of the church family.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football, his dogs, and many trips to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his kids and later his grandchildren play sports. Bob will always be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and generosity. He was a loving husband, father, and "Bobby" to his 4 grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife Robetha of Duke; his son Robert Blake and wife Marie of Tulsa; his daughter Kendal Lee and husband Blake Butler of Edmond; his grandchildren Addison, Brad, and Zack Darby of Tulsa and Jake Darby Butler of Edmond; his brothers Ken Darby and wife Risa from Duke, Richard Darby and wife Dana from Altus, and their families; his uncle Shearl Barton and his wife Wilena from Chouteau; his Darby and Barton family cousins; his sister-in-law Brenda Masters and her husband Thomas Barclay; his Phi Delta Chi fraternity brothers; and a multitude of friends.
