Robert Glen Fortune, age 76, of Altus, passed away Monday morning, April 22, 2013, at his home, in Altus.
Mr. Fortune was born in Pilgrim, Texas on February 1, 1937, to Leopold Florian and Eva Elizabeth (Hardcastle) Fortune. With the family moving to Gonzales, Texas, Bob attended and graduated from high school in Gonzales. Bob later attended barber training in San Antonio, Texas. Shortly thereafter, Bob joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for over twenty-two years. McChord AFB, Washington was his second assignment after Tripoli Libya. While at McChord, he met and married the love of his life, Claire Lorriane Stephenson, on February 12, 1960. They spent the next fifty-three wonderful years together before his death. In 1996, they were sent to Altus Air Force Base. Bob retired at Tinker A.F.B., in Oklahoma City, on February 1, 1997, from the Air Force, but continued working for Civil Service until his health required him to retire in June 2003. A deacon of the First Baptist Church, in Altus, Bob love to spend his spare time gardening, planting trees, working in the yard, building things and doing carpentry work.
Preceded in death by his parents; one son, Darrin Paul Fortune, in 1986 and a brother Douglas Fortune, Bob is survived by his wife Claire, of the home, in Altus; one son, Darrell Glen Fortune and wife Tracy Dawn of Tacoma, Washington; one sister, Doris Hart and husband Frank of Gonzales, Texas; three brothers, Donald Melvin Fortune and wife Tommie Ann of Wimberley, Texas, Lynn Ervin Fortune and wife Pam of Magnolia, Texas and David Fortune and wife Darlene of Shiner, Texas and two grandchildren, Brittney Piper and husband Michael of Tacoma, Washington and Shawnie Skye Fortune of Portland, Oregon along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Bob Fortune will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the WOW Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas. The family suggest memorials be made to Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice.
