CALHOUN
Robert Calhoun, age 74 of Lone Wolf and formerly a longtime resident of Granite, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016 at his home in Lone Wolf.
Robert was born in Gould, Oklahoma on August 13, 1941 to his parents Carl Chester Calhoun and Lillie Margaret (Ballard) Calhoun. He grew up in Granite, Oklahoma one of ten children and was baptized at the Granite Church of Christ. He was a proud graduate of the class of 1960 from Granite High School. Not too long after high school, Robert found himself in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge for his service to his country. When he got back home in 1965 he met the love of his life, Karen Henthorn. They were married on November 24, 1967 in Wellington, Texas and enjoyed over 48 years of marriage together. They settled in Granite where Robert worked for Ray Carothers service station and later he owned and operated Roberts 66 Service Station and Muffler Shop in Granite. Robert also worked as rural mail carrier for many years and as a volunteer fire fighter for the Granite Fire Department. He was a member of the Lone Wolf Church of Christ. Robert loved cars, going to car auctions and drag racing cars when he was younger. He also enjoyed playing cards, but most of all Robert treasured time spent with his family and especially his grandkids.
Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leon Calhoun; four sisters, Fannie Varner; LaVerne Nuckolls; Mary Cook; and Della Thompson; Robert is survived by his wife Karen of their home; three sons, Rodney Calhoun and wife Ginny; Steve Calhoun and wife Adrian; and Kevin Calhoun and wife Marisa all of Granite; his daughter, Tonya Murray and her husband Rafe also of Granite; one brother, L.D. Calhoun and wife Sue of Granite; three sisters, Betty Parsons of Nicoma Park, Oklahoma; Ruby Anderson of Hurst, Texas; and Myrtie Clarke and husband Ron of Ada, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, Cy and Faith; Brooke Jefferson and husband Robert, Alexa, Gage, Carsyn, and Kylin; Lincoln; Cal, Carlee, Tucker, and Jackson; two great grandchildren, Braylee and Jentri; brother-in-law, Bob Nuckolls of Granite; sister-in-law, Roberta Calhoun of Blanchard, Oklahoma; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
The family of Robert Calhoun will greet friends at visitation from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday July 22, 2016 at Greer Funeral Home in Granite.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Granite Church of Christ with Lowell Kirby and Pastor Tim Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow at the Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
Memorial donations may be made to the Granite Educational Enrichment Foundation in honor of Robert Calhoun.
