Obituary for Robert "Bob" Paul Metcalf
Robert (Poppa Bob) Paul Metcalf M.D.
With family and friends present he peacefully "tore out" to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday, February 27, 2011. He was born December 10, 1937 in Hollis, Ok to Paul Edward and Mattie Lorene (Ward) Metcalf. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at age nine and worked to bring others to know Him until his final days. He graduated from Hollis High School in 1956. He married the love of his life Elizabeth Anne Jarvis in 1957 and together they raised five children and fourteen grandchildren. After graduating from SWOSU with a Biology degree in 1960 he was accepted into the University of Oklahoma Medical School. After graduating in 1964 he returned to Hollis where he practiced medicine until 1968 when he moved his practice to Norman, OK. In 1972 he returned to OU to study Diagnostic Radiology. He completed his Residency training at Saint Anthony Hospital in 1975. He then formed Regional Radiology in Chickasha, OK and served many by flying to communities in Southwest Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle until his retirement in 2008 from E. V. General Hospital in Hobart and his retirement in 2009 from Clinton Indian Hospital after over thirty years of service. He served as a Captain in the Air National Guard in the early 1970's. Poppa Bob had many hobbies and interests during his lifetime that included flying, cowboy poetry, blues music, collecting knives, hunting and fishing, training and showing horses, Native American culture, farming and ranching, painting, leatherworking, The Loop, and enjoying a good meal with friends at The Kozy. However, his passion for people set him apart from all others for he enjoyed people from all walks of life and was not concerned with their race, appearance, physical condition or economic background a trait that was cultivated by working in his family's grocery store as a young boy. He went on many medical missions during his life with missions in Mexico and Belize; he also went to the Dominican Republic in 1979 after Hurricane David and assisted during the 1995 Murrah Bombing in Oklahoma City. He was not concerned with worldly possessions but was more interested in helping people physically and spiritually. As a result of this he left this earth a very wealthy man.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years Elizabeth of Hobart, a daughter Robyn and her husband Craig of Hobart, a daughter Lory and her husband Scott of Yukon, a son Kent and his wife Dee of Elk City, a daughter Marla and her husband Shane of May Pearl, TX, a son Lonell Smith and his wife Winter of Oklahoma City, a brother Jack and his wife Nancy of Edmond. His pride and joy fourteen grandkids: Evan, Ian, Jordan, Collin, Mallory, Karl, Keegan, Landon, Caydon, Kelsey, Devyn, Dalyn, Savannah, and Avery; ten nieces and nephews and hundreds of family and friends. Bob was preceded in death by twin grandsons, Joshua and Jacob.

Service is set for 1:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Hollis, OK with Rev. Jimmy White officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to: Elk City Indian Baptist Church, P O Box 2456, Elk City, OK 73648
