Obituary for Rita Kay Galvez
Rita Kay (Henderson) Galvez, a cherished longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on October 3, 2024, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on April 25, 1954 in Dallas, Texas, to J.P. Henderson Jr. and Dorothy Faye (Grinstead) Henderson.
Raised in Kemp, Texas, Rita's life took a beautiful turn when she met her soulmate, Jose Galvez Jr. during a family garage sale. It was love at first sight for Jose, leading to their wedding on May 19, 1972, in Dallas. Together, they built a loving home in Lancaster, Texas, where they welcomed six wonderful children: Jessica, Tina, Dottie, Rosie, Jose and Justin.
As a dedicated homemaker, Rita poured her heart into her family. Known for her creativity and craftsmanship, she was an exceptional Seamstress, able to bring any idea to life. Her culinary talents shone through in her beloved dishes, from homemade tamales, fried chicken and her famous menudo. Each meal was infused with love.
Rita was a strong-willed and opinionated woman, qualities that only enhanced her remarkable spirit. Above all, her greatest joy came from her children and her husband, but it was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who held a uniquely special place in her heart.
Her legacy of love and devotion will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Justin Galvez, and sister, Shirley Pruitt.
Left to carry on her memory and legacy is her husband Jose Galvez Jr., her daughters, Jessica Wilson and husband Andrew, Tina Jedlicka and husband Jeff, Dottie Wilbanks and husband Ronny, Rosie Garland, son, Jose Galvez III and wife Samantha and a special nephew that she cherished as a son, Tommy Galvez. Her brothers, Allen Henderson, Ronnie Henderson and wife Deniese, sister, Linda Bruner, twelve grandchildren, Kristen Lewis, Savannah Smalts, Tahler Wilson, Christopher Davis, Brittany Davis, Destiny Wilson, Courtney Davis, Colton Galvez, Kevin Garland, Jayden Garland, Justin Galvez and Emma Galvez, 21 great-grandchildren, Trinity, Branson, Everleigh, Styles, Lainey, Liam, Whitley, Logan, Matthew, Nevaeh, Carter, Maya, Scarlett, Ivey, Jameson, Faith, Hope, Eli, Carson, Jayde, and Cody, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
