Obituary for Richard Steven Zang
Richard Steven Zang, age 73 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Richard was born in Kewanee, Illinois on May 27, 1946 to his parents Joseph Henry Zang and Mary Jane (Osburn) Zang. Richard graduated from Kewanee High School in 1965 and shortly after high school he enlisted into the United States Air Force as a fire fighter. After his initial training, Richard landed in Altus, Oklahoma where he was stationed at the Altus Air Force Base. He met a local Altus lady, Julieanne and they were married on May 1, 1968 in Vernon, Texas and they enjoyed over 36 years of marriage until Julieanne's death on May 28, 2004. As a young Air Force family they were stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and Altus Air Force Base. Richard was deployed to Vietnam and served eight years active duty in United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge as well as numerous distinguished awards and decorations. After serving his country in the Air Force, Richard made a career in the Civil Service as a Fire Fighter at Altus Air Force Base, Burns Flat Air Base, Burns Flat, Oklahoma, and for the Shepherd Air Force Base. Richard loved watching any type of sporting event, talking about politics, and he always treasured family visits and he will be missed very much.

Preceded in death by his wife Julieanne M. Zang; his parents; his daughter Jennifer Lisa Zang; granddaughter, Jordon Agan; and his son-in-law, David Dearth; Richard is survived by four children, Susie Zang Jemeyson and husband Paul of Moore, Oklahoma; Richard Zang of Allen, Texas; William C. Zang and wife Amy of Madill, Oklahoma; and Lori Zang Tressler and husband Jesse of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; his sister, Carol Whiteside and husband Dan of Belleville, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren, Master Sergeant, Brittany Agan and husband Lieutenant Colonel, Mike Decz, United States Air Force, stationed at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City; Stephen Jemeyson of Moore, Oklahoma; Sophia Jemeyson of Moore, Oklahoma; and Gabriel Jemeyson of Moore, Oklahoma; Petty Officer Second Class, Jacob Zang and wife Kelly, stationed at Norfolk Naval Station, Virginia; and Carly Zang of McKinney, Texas; Ian Curtis Zang of Madill, Oklahoma; Abby Julieanne Zang of Madill, Oklahoma; Isaac Kael Zang of Madill, Oklahoma; and Ainsley Jane Zang of Madill, Oklahoma; Tiffany Dearth of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; Corporal, Anthony Richard Tressler, United States Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Airman, Jamie Lee Tressler, United States Air Force, stationed Hulbert Field Air Force Base, Florida; and Joseph Elliot Tressler of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; four great grandchildren, Michael Decz; and Evelyn Decz; Jaxon Drosche; and Sebastian Dearth; Richard’s lifelong friend, Steven Soderlund and wife Mary of Kocomo, Indiana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.

The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday evening, February 14, 2020 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel with Richard's son Pastor William Zang officiating.

Interment will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the United State Air Force, Altus Air Force Base Honors Detail under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
