Obituary for Richard Dale Newberry

Richard Dale Newberry, 81, a longtime resident of Eldorado, Oklahoma passed away Sunday,

November 13, 2022, at his home.

Richard was born August 3, 1941, on the family farm just west of Eldorado, Oklahoma to Leo Thomas

and Carrie Rhea Newberry.  He attended Frederick high school from 1955 through 1959. During this

time, he played on the “Team of Legends” and won several state championships. They were the first

integrated football team in the state of Oklahoma. Following his high school graduation, Richard

attended the University of Central Oklahoma and received a bachelor’s degree in distributive

education.  Upon his graduation, Richard worked as a high school teacher for one year in Tahlequah,

Oklahoma.  Richard decided after that year teaching wasn’t for him, but soon he found his calling as a

wholesale grocery salesman. He worked for L.D. Jones in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for many years.  In

July of 1976, Richard went to cash a check at his bank and fell in love with the bank teller, Donna Boyd.

They would have a short courtship before being united in marriage on November 5, 1976.  In 1991, the

Newberry family relocated to Idaho, after Richard received an offer to work for CNC Wholesales.

Upon his retirement, the Newberry family returned home to Eldorado, Oklahoma in 2015.

Richard was a godly man of faith and a follower of Jesus Christ.  His dedication to the Lord started at a

very young age. At the age of eight, Richard was saved at a tent revival at the First Baptist Church of

Eldorado and was baptized in Sandy Creek on the Thompson Farm. Richard and Donna helped found a

Baptist church in Athol, Idaho where they moved to.  He served his church in every way he could, by

serving on numerous boards, being a bible study teacher, and helping his fellow Christians in any way

he could.  In his free time, he enjoyed playing forty- two, spoons, teasing his friends and relatives,

boating, and reading his bible but most of all he enjoyed being around his family.

Richard leaves a legacy of kindness, devotion to his family, and a deep love for his savior Jesus Christ.

Receiving Richard at the gates of heaven are his parents, Leo Thomas and Carrie Rhea

(Crume)Newberry; son, Donald Mallow, and brother Kenneth Wayne Newberry and several cousins,

aunts and uncles to whom he was extremely close.

Left to honor Richard’s memory are his loving wife of forty- six years Donna Newberry; daughters, Jean

Ann Newberry, Angela Dawn Staton and husband Scott; grandchildren, Cole Staton and wife Michaela,

Kennedy Staton, Jonathon Mallow; great-grandchildren, Jacob Mallow, Joseph Hays, Charlotte Hays.
