Rhonda Jean McKee, 54, of Blair, passed away Sunday morning, February 2, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Hollis, Oklahoma, to the late Robert Calvin and Betty Jean Robinson, on August 26, 1959.
Rhonda graduated from Gould High School in 1977. It was there that she met her husband, Ronnie Wayne McKee. The two married in July of 1980, before both going on to graduate with Bachelor's degrees in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. They were very much tied together as they both got jobs teaching at Blair Public Schools in Blair, Oklahoma. With Ronnie also being a coach, Rhonda prepared herself for the constant change associated with that profession. She was lucky though, and spent her entire career in one place, teaching 3rd graders at Blair Elementary School. It was here that she affected countless young lives with her grace and warmth, feeling very much that each child who passed in and out of her classroom was one of her own. She led by example, and taught with a bleeding heart, leaving lasting memories in the minds of every young person taken under her wing. She was devoted to her students, working tirelessly for 31 years before retiring in May of 2013.
Rhonda was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a cancer in the lining of the lung, in January of 2011. Thus started her battle with the illness and discomfort that would eventually take her life. Treatment took her from Altus, OK to Houston, TX and even as far as Washington, D.C. She was a fighter throughout, holding on to her faith and her love for her family, even through the horrible circumstances associated with the disease. Those close to her can attest, this fight was more than a person should have to endure, and she carried herself through it admirably.
Rhonda was an active member of Blair First Baptist Church and enjoyed very few things more than sitting in the sun, reading a good book. There are no words, however, for the amount of love she had for her family. A devoted wife, and loving mother. She is unmatched. And will be missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents Calvin and Betty Jean, as well as her brother Larry Ted Robinson. She is survived by her husband Ronnie and three children: Kalle Ronee McKee, Matthew Cole McKee and Daniel Cade McKee. She also is survived by her stepfather, Carthel Lewis of Wellington, TX and her brothers and sisters: Robby and Marsha Robinson of Gould; Kerry and Jennifer Robinson of Summerfield, NC; Donna and Randy Mefford of Gould; Jana and Tim Bullington of Gould, Kristi and Daryn Dickey of Stillwater; Danny and Edwina McKee of Broken Arrow; Randy and Betty McKee of Altus as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Adhering to her wishes, The Rhonda McKee Memorial Scholarship fund has been set up at Stockmans Bank.
Funeral services for Rhonda McKee will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Mitchell and Pastor Heath Tucker officiating. Interment will follow at the Gould Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6 until 7 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
