Phyllis Picanso, age 81, of Altus, passed away early Friday morning, May 15, 2015, at Plantation Village Nursing Center.
Mrs. Picanso was born in Brooklyn, New York, during a blizzard, on February 15, 1934, to Paul Karl and Helen (Pietrzak) Franke. A graduate of Prospect Park High School, a part of the Brooklyn, New York school system, Phyllis later married Arthur Joseph Picanso, of Lowell Massachusetts, on October 31, 1953, at St. Jerome"s Church in Brooklyn, New York. With Arthur"s assignments in the United States Navy, they lived in many locations. In 1973, Phyllis moved to Sanford, Florida and later lived in the Orlando area where she worked at Days Inn and the Florida Mall at the Tourist Information Booth. Phyllis moved to Altus in 2005 to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Carolann and Gary Royle. In her spare time she loved being with her family and close friends, playing bingo, going on gambling boats and playing the slots.
Preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Paul Franke; one sister, Joyce Diane (Franke) Ort; one son, Gary Michael Picanso; a grandson, David Allan Royle and a great granddaughter, Caitlyn Valerie Eileen Royle, she is survived by her children, Carolann M. Royle and husband Gary and Timothy Joseph Picanso and wife Kathy (Causey); a daughter-in-law, Sylvia (Kahtib) Picanso; one brother, Robert Franke; her grandchildren, Christopher Paul Royle, Shelley Reitz, Kelley Faye (Picanso) Hoye and husband Jesus, Gary Lee Picanso, Paula Michell Picanso, Nicholas James Picanso; step grandchildren, Junior El Kahtib and Casi (Kahtib) Varnedoe; great grandchildren, Grant Blough, Tyler Michael Bland, Gary Dylan Thomas Royle, Ethan Picanso, Gary Braden Picanso and Michael Elliott Hoye along with many other relatives and friends.
In keeping with Phyllis" wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory and her cremains will be scattered at a later date in her beloved Florida.
