Phyllis then moved to Kellwood for a short time before starting with Solvay Chemical, in Vernon, Texas as a lab technician and was later promoted to executive secretary for the company. On June 23, 1973, she married the love of her life, James A. Williams, in Altus, and spent the next forty wonderful years together before her untimely death. In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed arts and crafts, scrapbooking, cooking, working on the computer, and spending time with her family and friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and going shopping with her girls. Phyllis is the granddaughter of the first black police officer killed in the line of duty in Altus, John Henry Hill.
